Full of Surprising Insights

When I picked up Enough to Make You Blush I thought it was a book about what other people did. I finished it in one sitting and came away with a deeper understanding of my own kink as well as my partners. This is far more than a how-to manual. It shines a light on a misunderstood and underestimated part of the human psyche, and shows how erotic humiliation can actually bring people closer through trust, vulnerability, and strength. Whether you indulge in erotic humiliation or just want to understand kink better, you need to read this book.

I now know that I enjoy humiliation but not "degradation

I've now read this book twice and given it to my Domme. I hope she reads it. It is the most interesting and informative book on any aspect of sexuality that I've ever read. I've learned so much about myself. I now know that I enjoy humiliation but not "degradation," a distinction that I wasn't aware of before, when I thought I didn't like "humiliation." I now understand why I like what I like, which normalizes and makes it much easier to accept. And there are so many ideas for exploring in play this aspect of the D/s dynamic. Thank you Princess Kali for taking the time and care to put your insights into words in an easily and enjoyably readable manner.

Princess Kali takes the big topic of erotic humiliation and makes it interesting, fun and informative. I love all the stories she shares of her ProDomme escapades. I love this book. It is a fascinating exploration on teaching medical students the important theory behind the medical interview. By using the Calgary-Cambridge method, with a strong emphasis on relationship-building as well as information-gathering, the book provides an orderly framework on how to teach these skills to medical students.

It does not hurt that it is SO well-written and easy to read.

It is vitally(!) important that the new generations of medica lprofessionals (what are the amatuers?) understand that there is a definite need for people in medicine to be able to communicate withpatients and not simply give them orders . That is one of the things whic has turned the populaton against doctors. Itis the father figure taken to the A. Huxley peridime. This understanding must be coupled with the ability and willingness to education the poplace in the needs and requirements for proper treatment (by the physician and the patient personally). It must be understood that medicin is an "art and gift" and not just a means to an inordinate salary base. I, personally, am very tired of seeing doctor dressed in slax an shoes which wuld pay for my son's 1st year in colege.. I have fire many doctors who take ME for granted because they are already on hemove to the next patient while showing me little patience for my HPI and PMHx. That is one of the reasons that I entered the field of communications for the medical community. Doctors deserve to know how to talk with, as well as, to patients...

Fascinating monograph

Andrew Klevan's book might be only 152 pages long, but they are dense pages, packed with information, observation and insights about a major Hollywood star and the people she worked with. I thought everything had been said about "The Lady Eve" - arguably one of the best film comedies ever made - but Mr. Klevan offers new observations and insights. His pages on Ball of Fire prompted me to take another look at it - an informative and rewarding experience. If you're looking to read a shallow, 'pop culture' piece on Barbara Stanwyck, this book isn't for you; BUT, if you're willing to spend time with a highly intelligent, articulate observer, by all means, buy this book!

This is a very interesting read if you are interested ...

This is a very interesting read if you are interested to looking further into Barbara Stanwyck's acting styles. However this is not any sort of biography. It focuses on a few of her films and really delves into the characters she portrays and makes one really appreciate her acting ability.

Superb and stimulating!

This is a striking portrait of a wonderful actor. The writing is pin-sharp, eloquent and vivid. It brings to life, and illuminates, so many moments of Stanwyck's extraordinary talent. I have no clue why the previous reviewer misguidedly focused on Freudian theory; Klevan is far more subtle and probing in his accounts of the films than this suggests. I recommend this entertaining and accessible book to everyone interested in good film criticism. Five stars!

For 11 years I was a professional cyclist, competing in the hardest and greatest races on Earth. I was in demand from the world’s best teams, a well-paid elite athlete. But I never won a race. I was the hired help.

When my mum dropped me off in a small French town aged 17, I was full of determination to be a professional cyclist, but I was completely green. I went from mowing the team manager’s lawn to winning every amateur race I entered. Then I turned pro and realised I hated the responsibility and pressure of chasing victory. And that’s when I became a domestique.

I learned to take that hurt and give it everything I had to give, all for someone else’s win. When the order came in to ride I pushed out with the hardest rhythm I could, dragging the group faster and faster, until my whole body screamed with pain. There were times I rode myself to a standstill, clutching the barrier metres from the line, as the lead group shot past. But that’s what made me a so good at my job.

As my career took off, I started looking at the fans lining the route, cheering us like heroes. The passion for cycling oozed off them, but they couldn’t know what it was really like. They didn’t see the terrible hotels, the crazy egos or all the shit that goes with great expectations. Well, this is how it is…

About the Author
Charly Wegelius was one of Britain's most distinguished and respected professional cyclists. He�raced for some of cycling's best teams, including Mapei, the world's most successful team ever. In his 11-year career he competed in a remarkable 14 Grand Tours, including three Tours de France. Charly now works as a directear sportif for the Garmin-Sharp team. Tom Southam is a former professional racing cyclist who�raced alongside Charly Wegelius for three years in the Italian professional peleton, and twice rode the professional Road Race Championships as a teamate of Wegelius. He contributes to major cycling publications in the UK and internationally.

Serious study of domestique's life

Charly Wegelius can be very very funny when he writes, but this book gives a serious view of life as a professional cyclist. There is a lot of information about how racing is done at the professional level, which is kind of unnecessary when you know about cycling, but very informative for those less knowledgeable. The main thing is that the reader can see how very difficult life is in the professional ranks, both on and off the bike. For this man to have succeeded without any "enhancements" is beautiful. He may never have actually won a race, but he is a giant winner when you consider he rode in the era of doping but did so clean - a bigger winner than any of those cheaters who may have crossed the finish line first.

I think there is a kind of irony in the fact that the Brits are now so dominant in stage racing. They will have to abandon the outsider role that they have had for so many years in the world of pro cycling. It is this outsider status that makes Wegelius' story so compelling and his book a must read. He shows up at a French dominated team as a teenage outsider, and works his way to valued pro the hard way. He learned the hard way largely because the continentals did not take him seriously.The British on the other hand had no real clue how continental racing actually worked. Witness the incident at the World Championship when Wegelius agreed to work for a foreigner largely because his own British squad was a hopeless case for competing. He, of course, was a "criminal" for engaging in the kind of horse trading that is and has been integral to continental racing.
Besides these ironies Wegelius lends useful insights for the reader who wants to get the feel of a grand tour from the inside. His description of the Vuelta since it has been scheduled in the fall is constantly with me,when I make plans to watch this year's version: a virtual afterthought on the pro calendar-full of the injured, the test cases, the has- beens and the still-standing.His description of the place of the Giro in Italian life is worth the read in itself.
I ordered this book with hopes of insights on the real workhorse of the pelaton can provide and I was not disappointed.

Very enjoyable, but a quick read

Great book! A little depressing at times, but goes a long way to show that the life of a professional athlete has as many trials and tribulations as anyone else. Especially if you're in the "second tier." I also found this very well written, which isn't always the case for sports books. A little short, though.

Really is a book of gems, whether about riding in a high-rollin truck to remembering a father's voice reading Alice in Wonderland and having it carry through when she goes down her own rabbit hole. I wanted 100 more little stories. Keep an eye on this gal.

Micro-fictions, flash-memoirs, prose poems, incidents, anecdotes, extended metaphors--there's no differentiation on the book's part, nor is there much need, as most of the pieces are glittering little truths whether factual or not. What you want from a jewelry box is interest--of form, color, texture, history, personal meaning, delight, the sense of life itself cut multifaceted from rock, or at least made plastic. What you want is the feeling that handling these pieces was time was well spent. It most definitely is.

When she was forced out of that position, she took a job managing Swinton Lock, which works with troubled kids, and in 2013 was asked by MP Sarah Champion to take on a role supporting the victims of sexual abuse in Rotherham.
