Boon to Jazz Singers

Judy's new book "Exloring the Blues" is a great help to beginners and experienced singers alike. Her method is very "in vivo", where the singer gets to experience improvising right away and learn from the masters at the same time. Judy's demonstrations are really inspiring - her voice is so pleasant and her technique is flawless. Students get a demonstration of perfect singing technique as well as getting new vocabulary for their improvisation. The addition of some of the quirky older jazz icons is priceless! It's valuable to see how important individuality is in this art form. I highly recommend this book to singers of all levels who want to improve their understanding of music and the blues, which is the foundation of jazz music.

Easy to use and well done: vocal jazz classroom tool.

Judy Neimack's book, Exploring the Blues: Hear It and Sing It! is a good tool in the classroom. My students love it, and it is easy to use. The exercises build nicely as the students' skills develop. The listening resource list in the back of the book is also very useful. Kudos to Judy for developing solid jazz vocal tools. Beautifully written, demonstrated and accompanied! A fantastic tool for teaching students who want to learn to sing riffs in any pop idiom and a great introduction to blues for those who are unfamiliar with the genre. A "must have" for today's voice instructor.

This book is the best companion for program

Being a complete novice using Inkscape, I am using this book page by page. It walks you through every aspect of the program. Finding and using this book and program is so very exciting, so much to learn, so much unleased creativity awaits me. I am having a great time. I am 57 years young, and proving you can teach an old girl new tricks. I plan to use this program and book to develope items for mixed media art.

Extremely helpful

I'm a new user to Inkscape 0.48. The book is well written, easy to follow, and contains many clarifying diagrams. With it, I've been able to quickly find answers to questions that eluded me via Google and Inkscape forum searches.

In the past, I worked exclusively with raster graphic editors. This book has made it easy to ramp up on vector fundamentals, like working with Bezier curves.

The author, an Inkscape programmer, provides background information to explain why certain features work the way they do. Being a programmer myself, I know how rare it is to get that kind of transparency. I appreciate those insights, because they highlight both the limitations and the possibilities offered by this very powerful graphics tool.

Though this book was published in 2009, everything I've tried works in the current 0.48 version of Inkscape. Newer features, like creating fonts, are not discussed in this book. I do look forward to buying an updated version of this book in the future.

Best Book on Inkscape that I know of

As far as I know it is the most complete book on Inkscape, it has very good detail as to how the program works. I've used this program for over two years and use it almost everyday, even though books can become outdated when it comes to subjects like this (I've had the book for almost two years) it still helps me to uncover tips, tricks and problems. The book is a very good primer in the use of Inkscape.
