On the way, a rowdy gang stops them. Pop, severely injured, tells his son to get help and take the rest of the family with him. Marching ants, followed by snobbish butterflies, see him, but pass by without coming to his aid. A stink bug and snail rescue Pop, who is eventually reunited with the family. Both didactic picture books inject pop culture into the traditional parables. The rhyme schemes are often stretched. Speech bubbles set the dialogue apart from the text. Each book concludes with a clear statement of the moral. Children will be entertained by the many details in Smith's comical cartoon-style artwork, which varies in size and features blues, greens, yellows, and purples. Vehicles are made from recycled materials. Parents seeking more traditional biblical versions will need to look elsewhere, but these lively, action-filled retellings do make the lessons accessible to children. ROBERT SKIDELSKY is Emeritus Professor of Political Economy at the University of Warwick. His biography of Keynes received numerous prizes, including the Lionel Gelber Prize and the Council on Foreign Relations Prize for International Relations. He was made a life peer in 1991, and a Fellow of the British Academy in 1994. EDWARD SKIDELSKY is a lecturer in the Philosophy Department of the University of Exeter. a very bold idea and much needed contribution

This book really made me think about some important issues in a fresh way. Surely we can be living fabulous lives but WITHOUT ruining this world of ours. Some chapters I found more my cup of tea than others. But I liked his review of how economists often seem to get their predictions wrong. I liked his questioning that the GDP absolutely must come down to save the planet. (depends) I liked the way he cuts through well accepted ideas for example, of what happiness is and how to acheive it. And a brief new consideraton of Carl Marx .... and much more.

Another Winner!

I was so excited when I got the notice that this book had been published and I wasn't disappointed. It was so nice to travel back to Medieval Scotland again. I loved the way this book tied in with the others in the previous series. I always enjoy when an author brings back some of our favorite characters so we can catch up with what's happened to them.

Another hot and sexy story, can't wait for the next book in the series to find out what happens.

Confusing but ok

This is my first book by this author and I must say I am very confused. Some parts of the story are great and easy to follow, then other parts have me wondering what the heck I'm reading. I thought I was reading the first in the series but it looks like it's technically the fourth. I would definitely recommend reading "The MacLomain Series: Early Years" first. While this book is good, it would probably make a lot more sense after reading the series before.

About the Author
Anthony Saunders is the John M. Schiff Professor of Finance and the Chair of the Department of Finance at the Stern School of Business at New York University. Professor Saunders received his PhD from the London School of Economics and has taught both undergraduate and graduate level courses at NYU since 1978. Throughout his academic career, his teaching and research have specialized in financial institutions and international banking. He has served as a visiting professor all over the world, including INSEAD, the Stockholm School of Economics, and the University of Melbourne. He is currently on the Executive Committee of the Salomon Center for the Study of Financial Institutions, NYU.. . His research has been published in all the major money and banking and finance journals and in several books. In addition, he has authored or co-authored several professional books, the most recent of which is Credit Risk Measurement: New Approaches to Value at Risk and Other Paradigms, John Wiley and Sons, New York, 1999.

Not a good intro book

If anything, this book is only good for learning about financial institutions not covered in other intro finance books--extensive information on mortgage markets, the federal reserve, commercial banks, etc.

The authors' explanations of financial calculations are obscure (obsessive use of subscripts and acronyms). Paragraphs are often wordy.

For financial math, I would recommend:

Brealey, Myers, and Marcus for corporate finance principles
Bodie, Kane, and Marcus (not as good as Brealey, but still good) for investment principles
Madura for foreign exchange principles

Horrible Book

Our school told us to buy this book because supposedly it is a solid text. I'm warning everyone not to buy this book. This book is riddled with errors, and the answer key given is often wrong as well. Poor quality editing, for example, sometimes the book tells you to refer to something, but its the wrong table, or they add a certain element to a practice problem, but they refer to the wrong one. NOT worth 150 bucks.

*�Evaluate and judge our feelings and behavior and sometimes
our core self.
*Tell us what we should and shouldn't do.
*Criticize us for not meeting its expectations or the
expectations of significant people in our lives.
*�Doubt our capacity to achieve success or happiness.
*�Make us feel guilty or ashamed about ourselves or
something we have done.

The Inner Champion: Our work suggests that we can each
develop an aspect of the Self that we call the Inner Champion.
This is a magic bullet for dealing with the negative impact of the
Inner Critic. Since we have outlined seven types of Inner Critics,
we have also identified seven corresponding types of Inner
Champions.

Each of these Champions has a number of important
capacities:
*The strength to set boundaries on attacks from the Inner
Critic
*The capacity to nurture and comfort parts that are at the
effect of the Inner Critic
*�An intuitive ability to hold a wider vision and see things
from a broader perspective
*The capacity to plan and take effective action

We have found that helping our clients to bring forth these
capacities sustains the healing work done around the Inner Critic.

About the Author
Bonnie Weiss, M.A., LCSW, is a psychotherapist, teacher, supervisor, trainer, and coach who has been practicing since 1974. Her distinctive approach incorporates the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model into an emotionally-deep, present-centered, yet action-oriented way of working. She combines a quick mind, clear insight, and sharp intuition with solid experience in developing trusting and meaningful transformative relationships. Her commitment is to facilitate personal growth and help people live to their highest potential.

Bonnie has taught classes and workshops on the Inner Critic and self-esteem, overeating, and IFS. She has most recently taught in Israel, Ireland, and at Easlen Institute. She is known for her clear and open teaching.

She is the author of Self Therapy for Your Inner Critic, The Illustrated Workbook for Self Therapy for You Inner Critic, and Activating Your Inner Champion, and the following audio products: IFS Basic Class and IFS Demonstration Sessions.

Bonnie serves as program design and development consultant for Lucid Learning Systems, a provider of curriculum for personal transformation. She was a director and faculty member of the Gestalt Therapy in Long Island and co-director of the Long Island Center for Eating Disorders.

Her private practice in the Bay area and by telephone focuses on individuals, couples, and professional supervision.

Fabulous workbook

This workbook is a fabulous complement to Self-Therapy for Your Inner Critic. It elucidates the main points of the book and provides well designed exercises to help integrate these concepts. I love the fact that you can open up to any page in the workbook and have an important idea reinforced. I work with groups of arthritis patients and I intend to use this in my work with them.

Understanding the Inner Critic can help one do IFS work more effectively, and these books together provide an excellent format for this deeper understanding. I was enchanted by the illustrations, especially the concept of the flashlight that sheds the light of consciousness on the various parts. The book provides a number of different modalities for the user to work with the ideas.

I was particularly heartened by the concept of the Inner Champion. It supports people to see that they can unburden and transform in a number of ways. I like the idea that it can mediate the impact of the Inner Critic, while there is also the Inner Mentor that can provide supportive guidance based on the kernel of truth in the criticism.

Inner work made clear

I was delighted to discover this workbook for Self Therapy for the Inner Critic. It makes so many of the basic concepts of IFS easily accessible. Each page explores and clarifies one concept, in a clear and efficient way. The questions and exercises really aid in deeper understanding, and the combination of illustrations and cognitive prompting works to stimulate and educate. I appreciated the sequencing and the flow of this workbook. It takes the student smoothly from one idea to the next, helping the integration of what can be complex material. I can easily see it being useful for a broad spectrum of IFS students, from adolescents and young adults to clients who are just learning to work with this model. I so appreciate that Bonnie and Jay have brought this important and powerful healing tool to the general public in such an accessible way.

Wonderful Step by Step program

This book really opened my eyes to the many sub personalities we all have within us. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to keep from experiencing the same old story again and again.
